KENTUCKY DERBY CARE PACKAGES 2009
CARE PACKAGES: Let’s send a “Taste of Kentucky” to our troops. With the upcoming Kentucky Derby it is a great time to send a bit of “My Old Kentucky Home” over to our deployed heroes. We are seeking participation from local businesses that would like to make donations for our care packages. If you know of a business that sells Kentucky Derby items (t-shirts, caps, candy, postcards, hot sauce, seasonings, cups, plates, etc) as well as other items with a Kentucky/Horse theme, please contact us at [email protected] or 859-509-4827. Donations will be accepted through Monday, April 20, 2009. Help us get these boxes to our troops before Derby Day on May 2, 2009. All donations are tax deductible! No alcohol or tobacco products accepted. Donations can be dropped off at our office. Please call first as office hours vary. Click here to find our office location.
DONATION BOOTH: Come check out our booth at Tax Liberation Day being held on Saturday, April 18 at Applebee's Park (11 am to 2 pm) and drop off a care package item at the same time. Donation boxes will be located at the Military Missions booth. Bring a KY Derby item or bring one of the following:
Foot Powder
Baby Wipes (refill packs or travel size)
Sunflower Seeds (pocket/snack size)
Drink Mix (On the Go Mix for Water Bottles)
Eye Drops
Beef Jerky
Let’s include KENTUCKY POSTCARDS! Spread the word! We want individuals to purchase 10-15 Kentucky Postcards and write a short note of thanks to our troops on the back side. Drop the postcards off to be included in our Kentucky Derby Care Packages!

Bluegrass Tax Liberation Day is a non-partisan event being sponsored by Bluegrass Institute for Policy Solutions. It is being held on Saturday, April 18, 2009 from 11:00 to 2:00 pm at Applebee’s Park. This event is designed to be an educational festival to teach citizens about the founding ideas of America and liberty. The educational festival will have informational tables set up to learn more about the organizations in Kentucky who advocate for liberty, limited government, individual responsibility, private property rights, and free trade and will include face painting, music, games like Big Government Corn Hole, How Will You Spend Your $13 Tax Refund?, Tennis Ball Cannon - Taxes, Debt, Pork, Scavenger Hunt, Big Government Jeopardy, The American Pie Bail Out, and many more.
Military Missions, Inc. will be hosting a booth to support our military families and veterans. A booth has graciously been donated to allow us the opportunity to share our mission of support for our troops. We will be hosting the game THE AMERICAN PIE BAIL OUT. We need volunteers to help us run the booth and are specifically looking for people who would be willing to take a 15-30 minute shift getting a few pies in your face!
If you are interested in working at our booth for a 30-60 minute shift or brave enough to take a few pies in the face we need your help. Let’s remember that this opportunity to get the word out about Military Missions will be a huge support to our troops. Let’s take one (pie in the face) for our troops! They do a lot more than that for each of us!
The day promises to be a lot of fun! Contact Beth as soon as possible at [email protected] if you can help on Saturday, April 18, 2009. We will also be selling T-shirts, distributing flyers, and collecting care package donations. We are also looking for people interested in distributing flyers for this event.

We meet bi-monthly, on Thursday evenings, at Southland Christian Church as a part of their "Hearts for Heroes" support group. Our group meets from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Childcare is provided. Southland Christian Church is located at 5001 Harrodsburg Rd, Nicholasville, KY. Join us for this time of encouragement, prayer, and support.

If you are unable to attend but would like for us to be praying specifically for someone in our military, we welcome your prayer requests. It would be an honor and a privilege to pray for those serving in our nation’s Armed Forces. You can submit prayer requests to [email protected]. SUPPORT OUR MILITARY FAMILIES
We want to reach out BEYOND THE YELLOW RIBBON in our community! It is easy to drive through town with a yellow ribbon on our cars, but shouldn’t we all be doing more? Military Missions is dedicated to meeting the needs of the family members of our Armed Forces. We need to provide services to these families especially when their loved one is in harm’s way. Donations provide countless opportunities to make lives a little bit easier for those here on the “Home Front”. Your donations help with expenses for babysitters, yard work, repairs, medical expenses, and other necessities that must be met.
Would you like to read news releases from Iraq and Afghanistan that often get overlooked and go unpublished by our news media? Are you interested in finding out more about support for military families and veterans? Would you like to learn more about PTSD, TBI, Wounded Warriors, and support services that are being offered for these issues? If you find any of these issues of interest, you can subscribe to a twice-monthly newsletter that will support our troops and support Military Missions, Inc. A one year subscription costs $12 year. $6 of your donation will go directly to Military Missions, Inc. Go to www.thankyouforyourservice.us to find out more. If you subscribe, be sure to list MILITARY MISSIONS, INC. in the REFERRAL box. Your referral will donate $6 to send out a care package to our deployed military!
